After a traumatic leave from my dream job - teaching Junior High School Theatre - I returned to teaching Elementary School. It was hard. I missed my kiddos immensely. I missed my dream job, not to mention how traumatic it was to leave. After two years, I decided to accept the fact that I am an elementary school teacher by posting something positive that happened in my classroom every day. It started on Instagram and Facebook. It's now in blog form. Thanks for coming.

At one of my schools, I got new classes. I taught half the school first semester, and now I have the other half. I had a class of 16 second graders. I was calling roll and when I called out her name, this little girl didn’t say ‘here’, she said, ‘Oh my God! Nobody has ever said my name right the first time!” Then, with a tear in her eye (seriously), she said, “Thank you.” I said, “You’re Welcome.”
I’ll tell you, I have the same type of reaction when my name is pronounced correctly. Those of us with *different names know this feeling all too well. We notice and feel seen when it’s pronounced correctly.
Here’s to hoping I say it correctly next week.

A filler lesson with kindergartners today made me want to turn it into a unit for them! Which I’ve done with this book, but for fourth graders…

Today was the first day of our voice unit. These second graders are playing “Greetings your Majesty” speaking slowly, loudly, and clearly all while disguising their voices in hopes to trick our Royalty. It was a success, and these kiddos have very funny disguises/characters for their voices.

That is Power Penguin. He helps give kiddos “power” to stand up in front of people and present. Today he was giving power to this cute first-grader who was telling us a story about cracking his head open.

Today was a Gerald and Piggie Day for Kindergartners. ‘I Like Slop’ was the book we were working with. This is Gerald after - ever so kindly - trying Piggie’s slop!
