After a traumatic leave from my dream job - teaching Junior High School Theatre - I returned to teaching Elementary School. It was hard. I missed my kiddos immensely. I missed my dream job, not to mention how traumatic it was to leave. After two years, I decided to accept the fact that I am an elementary school teacher by posting something positive that happened in my classroom every day. It started on Instagram and Facebook. It's now in blog form. Thanks for coming.

At one of my schools, I got new classes. I taught half the school first semester, and now I have the other half. I had a class of 16 second graders. I was calling roll and when I called out her name, this little girl didn’t say ‘here’, she said, ‘Oh my God! Nobody has ever said my name right the first time!” Then, with a tear in her eye (seriously), she said, “Thank you.” I said, “You’re Welcome.”
I’ll tell you, I have the same type of reaction when my name is pronounced correctly. Those of us with *different names know this feeling all too well. We notice and feel seen when it’s pronounced correctly.
Here’s to hoping I say it correctly next week.
